PFCI volunteers, animal welfare activists and police talking to the Gypsies in Ponamallee

After a tip off that the Gypsies in  Poonamalle have again detained some animals for the purpose of slaughter, a team of 15 animal welfare activists gathered at the Poonamalle Police Station to lodge a complaint against the Gypises and requested them to rescue the animals.

We reached the station by 2 PM, after much effort, the police accepted our complaint and accompanied us to the Gypsy Colony by 4 PM.

The boys and about 15 police officers entered the Gypsy colony looking out for the detained animals.

After searching for half an hour, we dint find animals and we thought to leave. Siddarth & Nivedhita gave an idea of creating awareness among the Gypsies. The police also cooperated and we informed the Gypsies how catching stray animals for slaughter is illegal and wrong. Gypsies agreed to an extent and assured us that they would stop killing cats. We are hoping that they would live up to the assurance they have given us.

PFCI thanks all kind souls who sacrificed their Sunday and joined our fight promoting the animal welfare. Hats off!

We end this post with a note that constant monitoring and awareness among the Gypsies is the need of the hour.
