Two mother donkeys and two calves (1 male & 1 female) were abused and ill-treated by a person in Mylapore. PFCI received a complaint from Ms Sneha about the same.

On 28th Feb by 4 PM,PFCI investigated and found out that the four donkeys were never given proper care by the owner. The donkeys were made to stray during the day and later in the evening were tied in small dirty ropes on the roadside. They were not even properly fed let alone providing shelter. The calves were very weak and malnurished.

PFCI members rushed to the Mylapore Police  Station and lodged a complaint. After 4 hours, the SI agreed to file the complaint, gave a CSR & sent police officers to rescue the donkeys. By 8 pm after much difficulty, the members of PFCI carried the donkeys on a vehicle. By 10 pm, the donkeys were taken to Dr Shiranee’s PFA at Redhills, where they are now being fed and given proper shelter.

The owner of the donkeys is out of station and the neighbours told that he sells their milk at Rs 400 for few millilitres. Also there were rumors that he sells their blood to people saying that the blood has medicinal value. The police assured that they will do a thorough enquiry once the owner of the donkeys returns.
